Humic Acid FAQ
Humic acid
What is humic acid?
Humic acid is a natural organic fraction formed from decomposed and transformed plant and microbial materials. In agriculture, it is used mainly for soil conditioning, fertilizer efficiency and root-zone support.
Is humic acid a fertilizer?
It is not a conventional NPK fertilizer. Humic acid may contain organic matter and some minerals, but its main value is soil and nutrient interaction, not direct nutrient supply.
What is humic acid used for?
Common uses include soil conditioner, organic fertilizer, compound fertilizer, fertilizer granulation, water-soluble fertilizer, root application and compost support.
Is humic acid fully water soluble?
Raw humic acid is not always fully water soluble. Potassium humate and sodium humate are more soluble salt forms.
Can humic acid be used in drip irrigation?
Only suitable soluble grades should be used. Low-grade or insoluble material may block filters and emitters.
Fulvic acid
What is fulvic acid?
Fulvic acid is a more soluble fraction of humic substances. It is widely used in foliar fertilizer, drip irrigation, liquid fertilizer and micronutrient blends.
What is the main difference between humic acid and fulvic acid?
Humic acid is more soil-oriented. Fulvic acid is more soluble and better suited for foliar, drip and liquid systems.
Can fulvic acid be mixed with trace elements?
Yes. It is often used with iron, zinc, manganese, copper and other micronutrients. Compatibility should still be tested.
Is fulvic acid always better than humic acid?
No. Fulvic acid is better for soluble applications. Humic acid is often better for bulk soil conditioning and granular fertilizer.
Humates
What is potassium humate?
Potassium humate is a potassium salt form of humic acid. It is commonly used in agriculture because it offers better solubility and potassium contribution.
What is sodium humate?
Sodium humate is a sodium salt form of humic acid. It is used in agriculture, animal feed, aquaculture and some industrial applications.
What is ammonium humate?
Ammonium humate is a humate grade used in certain fertilizer systems where humic substances and ammonium nitrogen are both wanted.
What is potassium fulvate?
Potassium fulvate is a potassium form of fulvic acid, usually selected for high-solubility liquid, foliar or drip applications.
Which humate grade should I choose?
Choose by application. Potassium humate fits many agricultural uses. Sodium humate fits feed or cost-effective soil uses. Potassium fulvate fits soluble and foliar systems.
Amino acid fertilizer
What is amino acid fertilizer?
Amino acid fertilizer contains amino acids, peptides or protein hydrolysates. It is used as a biostimulant and specialty nutrition material.
What is the difference between plant-source and animal-source amino acid?
Plant-source products usually have cleaner market positioning and lower odor. Animal-source products can be cost-effective but require more attention to odor, color and regulatory acceptance.
Can amino acids be mixed with micronutrients?
Yes. Amino acids are often used with trace elements in foliar and liquid fertilizer formulas.
Is free amino acid content important?
Yes, especially for foliar and fast-response products. Total amino acid content and free amino acid content should not be confused.
Seaweed extract
What is seaweed extract used for?
Seaweed extract is used as a plant biostimulant to support root activity, crop recovery, flowering, fruit setting and stress tolerance.
Is seaweed extract a fertilizer?
It can contain nutrients, especially potassium, but it is mainly used as a biostimulant rather than a complete fertilizer.
Can seaweed extract be mixed with amino acids and fulvic acid?
Yes. This is a common combination in specialty fertilizer products. Stability should be tested before production.
What should buyers check in seaweed extract?
Check source species, extraction method, organic matter, alginic acid, solubility, pH, odor, heavy metals and compatibility.
Soil organic carbon and carbon sequestration
What is soil organic carbon?
Soil organic carbon is the carbon stored in soil organic matter. It is linked to soil fertility, structure, water retention and microbial activity.
Is soil organic carbon the same as organic matter?
No. Soil organic carbon is the carbon portion of soil organic matter.
What is carbon sequestration?
Carbon sequestration is the process of capturing and storing carbon. In agriculture, it usually refers to storing carbon in soil through plant growth and organic matter formation.
Can humic acid increase soil carbon?
Humic acid can contribute organic material and support soil function, but long-term soil carbon improvement requires complete soil management.
Can humic acid create carbon credits?
Not by itself. Carbon credit claims require measurement, verification and a recognized program.
Product selection
What information should be provided before requesting a quotation?
Provide application method, crop, target formula, solubility requirement, local regulation, required specification and packaging preference.
Can one product be used for soil, foliar, drip and feed?
Usually no. These applications have different quality requirements.
Can Saint Humic Acid recommend a suitable grade?
Yes. The best recommendation depends on application, specification and market requirement.
