Potassium humate enhances drought and stress resistance of crops

Updated · 3 min read

Potassium humate plays a significant role in enhancing drought and stress resistance of crops.

1.Potassium humate: reduce the opening of the pores and reduce the transpiration of water. After two days of spraying, the pore width can be reduced by 72.7%.

2.On the 9th day, the total transpiration was reduced by 13.7% compared with the control, and the soil moisture content was increased by 1.5%. The effect of narrowing the stomatal opening after application of the drug lasted for more than 12 days, and basically disappeared on the 13th day.

3.After that, the mechanism of anti-transpiration of potassium humate. They sprayed different concentrations of potassium humate at the booting stage of wheat, and found that with the increase of dosage and concentration, the stomatal closure degree increased correspondingly, and the duration of drug effect was also extended, up to 22 days.

4.The effects of potassium humate on transpiration of wheat, corn, peanut, tobacco, sweet potato, soybean and other crops were found to be different between different crops.

5.The stomatal opening degree of wheat, corn and oats decreased by 51.2%–60.4% compared with the control, and soybean and alfalfa decreased by 48.3%–67.1%. There are also differences between different varieties of the same crop.

6.Generally, the inhibition of stomatal opening is stronger with the increase of the concentration of the drug, but the opening of the pore is too small to hinder the absorption of carbon dioxide, which affects the photosynthesis of plants, so it is necessary to determine the appropriate concentration.

7.Promote root development and increase root activity. Seed dressing with potassium humate was carried out with wheat, and the number and length of secondary roots increased significantly. This effect can be continued from the seedling stage to the wintering and returning stages.

8.The seed dressing plants grew robustly, the root-shoot ratio increased, the lower leaves senescence delayed, the number of green leaves remained, the photosynthetic area increased, and dry matter accumulation increased.

9.Potassium humate also has obvious effects on the growth and vigor of roots such as corn, rice, peanut and sweet potato.

10.Maize was planted with 0.5% potassium humate, the average root length increased by 3.6 cm, the number of roots increased by 1.3, and the dry matter weight increased by 1.45 g, thereby increasing the absorption of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium in the soil. Whether it is seed dressing, soaking or spraying.

11.Impact on soil water holding capacity. Spraying humic acid potassium inhibits crop transpiration, slows down soil water consumption, and increases soil water content.

12.In addition, potassium humate has the effect of improving soil structure, which is beneficial to maintain soil water balance and play a role in water conservation.

13.Make the crops through the dry period. The change of soil water content in different periods after spraying humic acid potassium in wheat decreased by 4.3%–5.1% within 10-20 days after spraying. After the application of potassium humate to corn, the water content in the deep layers of different soils increased by 7.0%–35.7%.

Second, improve the cold resistance of crops

The use of potassium humate on rice, winter wheat, rapeseed, apple, pear, peach, grape, and greenhouse vegetables can increase the cold resistance of crops and prevent and mitigate low temperature and cold damage. The main mechanism is that potassium humate can stimulate the activity of some enzymes in plants, affecting some osmotic adjustment substances, thus protecting the cell membrane.

Third, support plant vigour

Potassium humate can support root growth and plant vigour as part of a balanced nutrient programme. It is not a pesticide or fungicide and does not prevent or treat plant diseases; crop protection should use registered products.

Humic Acid FAQ

Humic acid What is humic acid? Humic acid is a natural organic fraction formed from decomposed and transformed plant and microbial materials. In agriculture, it is used mainly for soil conditioning, fertilizer efficiency and root-zone support. Is humic acid a fertilizer? It is not a conventional NPK fertilizer. Humic acid may contain organic matter and […]

Soil Organic Carbon

Soil organic carbon is the carbon stored in soil organic matter, and it is one of the foundations of productive, resilient soil. It is not a single product. It is not created overnight. It is the result of plant growth, root activity, residue return, microbial transformation and soil management. What soil organic carbon means Plants […]

Seaweed Extract Guide

Seaweed extract has become a standard ingredient in plant biostimulant products. It is used in foliar sprays, drip irrigation products, transplanting formulas, fruit-setting programs and stress-management blends. The material is popular, but quality varies widely. A fertilizer label may say “seaweed extract,” while the actual product can differ in seaweed species, extraction method, solids, alginic […]
